While the world celebrated, one town in Scotland regarded Armstrong’s achievement as a personal success story. Neil Armstrong stepped out of the lunar module with the words “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” and entered the history books as the ultimate highflyer.
Astonishing though it is to those of us who remember being allowed to stay up and witness the event on television, on 21st July 2019 it will be 50 years since the first moon landing.
