In the past, this method worked fine with Windows 7 without any issues. When I typed in 'cmd' at the start menu and right-clicked it to 'Run asĪdministrator', it would open a regular command prompt (not as administrator).

I'm also running IOBit Start Menu 8 and have the Modern Interface disabled. I had this exact same problem recently and it also threw me for a loop. How in the world can I run the command prompt as administrator so I can properly run 'sfc /scannow'? ' When I try and run 'sfc /scannow', I get the error message that 'You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility.' I have verified that my user account has administrator access and have right clicked cmd.exe and selected 'RunĪs Administrator', but it just will not work. I read that to fix the issue I need to open a command prompt as Administrator user and then run 'sfc /scannow' to fix the failed updates, but I cannot seem to run cmd.exe as the Administrator user. Towards the end there was a slew of failed updates which did not install one of them which was a cumulative patch for Internet Explorer. I recently installed Windows 8.1 on my netbook and downloaded all the updates which took almost 2 days to complete.
